It is a commonly known fact that the Serbs are not fond of Muslims. On an individual level, my husband had been told by his Serb uncle a Muslim man shouldn't be permitted to marry a Christian girl. Naturallyhe was devastated and didn't return to our location for two months. Then, he was ready to undergo union with a Christian girl only if there was no immediate threat to his life.
Fortunatelyhe escaped to Canada where he could wed a beautiful woman without fear of repercussions. Regrettably, his experience isn't an isolated one. In Belgrade he observed how a Muslim man beat up a Christian woman because she did not finish a religious test. The lady later died from her injuries.
In fact, this incident occurred in front of my eyes and I neglected to intervene. That is why I use the"No" option when I fill out the" Volunteering in my Own Nation" self assessment form. But it should be stated that the same cannot be said concerning the volunteer services in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been several instances of rape and violence against minorities. The sufferers are Muslims and Christians alike.
I can only hope that the authorities of Serbia will soon introduce a law which prohibits all forms of discrimination irrespective of gender, race or faith. I was amazed to learn that the government of Serbia has nothing good to suggest as far as the security of minority communities is concerned. There is no legal provision for victims of crimes to claim compensation from the criminals. Hence, filling the"Volunteering in my country" self evaluation form is totally voluntary.
In a situation like this, any person who would like to help the deprived people of the nation should do this without any sense of shame. According to a recent survey, nine out of every ten Serbs consider themselves as great philanthropists! This can be quite an wonderful figure when you come to consider it. Additionally, it goes to show that not all of them are selfish or egoistic. There are a few very real feelings of compassion and concern which they want to help other people in need.
If you wish to assist the innocent victims of ethnic cleansing in Chechnya, you are able to fill out the"Voluntary Work abroad in my own Country" self evaluation form. You won't receive any financial help. However, you will get a moral boost and feel great about yourself. And that is a priceless benefit!
